A More Readable Version of the Audio Transcript From My Dyson Pure Cool Link TP02 Video Review
What’s up, everyone. This is your boy, Mr. Product reviews.
And today we will be doing every view on this Dyson Pure CoolLink Wi-Fi Enabled Air Purifier Review. This air purifier/fan is not an air conditioning. It’s a fan AND an air purifier. And this particular model, I believe is the TP02 model.
How Much is the Dyson Pure Cool Link TP02?
So, I picked this up on Costco. It was on sale for $100 off. At the end of the day, I think I paid about $299, plus tax. That’s $299.99, plus tax. Yeah, so this is kind of like what it is. We needed an air purifier in our home because my wife suffers from asthma. We’d had an air purifier in the past that that seemed to work okay.
And then it died and we just haven’t gotten a new one. And then, when I saw this one on Costco, I was like, “Whoa! I’ll try it out.” I haven’t opened the box yet, so I don’t know what to expect.
We’ve had a Dyson product in the past. We’d had a vacuum cleaner and we enjoyed it quite a bit. So, I figured we’ll give Dyson another go. In a later video, I’ll show you what’s it like. They’ve got some nice services that are packed into this product. Without further ado, just real quick, we’ll do a quick 360 view of this box just to show you how it looks like.
How Did it Performed When I Got it Home?
It is quite tall. I did have to put my back seat down in order for it to fit in my car. I do have a small car, too. I have a coupe. If you have a truck or something that folds down like that, you should be fine. This is just in case you guys decide to mail this to your office, rather than your home, so just to be aware that it comes in a tall box. What’s really cool about this is that it’s not very heavy. I don’t think it’s more than 10- 15 lbs, maybe even lighter. I haven’t weighed it. But you could basically just hold the handle and you could just carry it. It’s pretty convenient, to say the least.
What Does it Filter?
Just real quick; what kind of stuff does it filter? Down here on the side panel it tells you that a little bit. Let me zoom in. It removes gases like nitrogen dioxide, benzene, formaldehyde, household fumes. And it captures pollen allergens, industrial emissions, pet dander, and ultrafine particles. I don’t even know what some of these are. So, it seems to be pretty good, right?
Probably pretty standard stuff, too. I think it’s just marketing material and things like that.
More About Filters and Maintenance
In terms of filter maintenance I just want to show you the terms of filter maintenance, yeah.
It’s pretty simple. You just need to replace your filter every 12 months, based on a 12 hour per day use. So, if you’re running this 24/7, then we’re talking about six months, right?
So, an FYI on what kind of maintenance you would need and when to buy a new HEPA filter. I checked on Amazon and the price is about $25. So, I’m thinking maybe in the range of $25 or $30, and you should be good to go.
And the product I did this price check on, I think it was like the generic product. If we’re talking about like a genuine Dyson filter, it’ll probably be a little bit more. So just an FYI.
What About Repair, Support, and Free Shipping?
Here’s what’s really cool, too, is they have Dyson support and free shipping there and back. So, if your product should ever malfunction that’s really cool that you could ship it back to them for free. I mean, you’re not going to have the product for a couple of days, a few weeks, but still, you’re not paying for shipping for something this bulky. That’s nice.
So like that’s pretty much like what kind of maintenance and support which they provide. Mind you, I haven’t taken advantage of it, so it’d be hard to say if they actually do what they say? If I ever take advantage of it, I’ll definitely let you guys know about my experience.
Unboxing of Dyson Pure Cool Link TP02
Next thing I’ll do is open the box and show you what’s inside. As you can see, this is the stuff inside here and I’ll just go through this in detail with you guys real quick. So these are just kinda like all the stuff that came with it. Opening the box was pretty simple. See these tabs over here, there’s like tape on all three of them. All you have to do is just take a pair of scissors and cut the tape off. Then you just open it like that. This is probably the easiest way to open this box. And once you open it, it basically breaks it down into compartments.
There’s that space component here. This is where the top of the fan component stays. This is how it looks like when you open it; you have the base and then you have this upper, fan attachment here. It comes with a remote should you want to use it. The UI of this, the design of the UI, is pretty nice, too. The remote access instructions are on the cardboard box here already, so you can see where everything’s at and what it does. Pretty good design in my opinion.
And one thing I forgot to mention is that there’s a DysonLink App that you can download. You can monitor the data that comes in as to how clean your house is in terms of gas, allergens, and whatnot.
This is pretty cool. I will do a video on that APP later as part of this video. Here you have documentation and this is the base unit. It looks like this round thing over here. Nothing too special, right? I mean, it’s just this base here. So, on and off again, this is what you get out of the box. Next thing, I will attach it and then we’ll turn it on and see what happens. [Video now shows the Dyson Pure CoolLink Air Purifier Assembled] Okay. So here I attached the units together. It was fairly simple for me to attach it, to put this unit together took me maybe 30 seconds or less. This is the reason why I liked Dyson products so much. It’s just intuitive design and this is just so easy to assemble and whatnot. Everything is like lego pieces if you will. Very modular. So, this is kind of the reason why I decided to purchase a second at Dyson product.
Make sure that when you attach this part here, just make sure that this part snaps together so you hear a little snapping sound when you put these two together. Make sure that the attachment is nice and secure. You press it. Now you can remove this part as you just press it in on both ends. So there’s one here and then there’s another one here. Just make sure you press these two at the same time to release the attachment.
So, you see this button here? You sort of pushing it in. You hear that click. Yeah. So that’s like attaching the unit back on. Just to make sure those two things snap together, so that’s it’s nice and secure. Next thing I’m going to do is let me just fun, fun to try to find my remote. So I’m going to turn this on and hopefully, you guys can hear the sound of the purifier. This is at a max of 10. I just want you to listen to it when it’s at Max. Yes. You see that 10 right there on the display.
And this is the sound level at maximum, which is fine for me because this will be in my office. If you set it any lower, you’ll probably be okay. So let me see what it’s like when it’s set it down to something that’s not as loud.
This is at level zero. So, this is our level of one. I cannot hear anything at all. So, we’re just going to slowly climb up to a two. This is at level two and this is at a three. So, at three I’m starting to hear a little bit. I’m a trained musician, so I can hear faint noises pretty well. I think this might be still too soft for you to hear, but I could hear a slight hum. At level four it is kind of like where I’m starting to hear it, okay. You can definitely hear it at level four. This is at five, then at six. I hoped the sound picks up on this video. We’ll be able to pick the sound up at level seven. This is eight, now nine. And again, this is at a maximum of 10.
Okay. So, there you go.
They also, like I also said, I’m not breaking this down so that it doesn’t integrate. Yeah. Did videos so much is I’m going to bring it down to one. And so, um, you know, this is also a fan, right? And so at a level of one, um, you could, I could barely feel the fan, but at that level of like, so four or five I could start to fit a fan and that’s where it starts making some sound.
This is also a fan. And so, at a level of one, I could barely feel the fan, but at the level of four or five, I can start to feel the fan and this is where it starts making some noise. In terms of the fan, I’m standing right in front of it. I could definitely feel the fan here. I’m just going to do a quick 360 degree walk around the fan. You could feel it here. If you stand on the side, right here, you wouldn’t be able to feel the fan or if you’re in behind it, you can’t feel the fan, either.
So just make sure that this fan is directional through the front. You can feel it from the front; not from the side, not from the back, just from the side. Just an FYI, right? I mean this is not a conventional fan that we understand but maybe in the future, this might be conventional. You know, as I know fan it has three blades and you see where it spins or where the airflow is coming from. So, this operates just like any other fan except that this fan has that tubular kind of thing going on. So, this is on high. This is what it looks like attached and whatnot. And the next thing I’m going to install the Dyson app and see what kind of data I’m looking at and reviewing it.
Reviewing the Remote Control Settings
In my earlier video, I don’t think I did it justice on the different features on the remote. I just want to go back to this real quick. This is pretty self-explanatory. This is turning it on and off. Then there’s also auto mode. Basically, you can see on the indicator I have it at auto mode. So basically the fan will adjust up or down based on the level of the gas, allergens, and whatnot that it detects in my environment. So right now it’s at four. Before it was more like a one. I have a feeling that this will kick back in at a two or one at a later time.
Adjusting the Fan Settings
Going back down here. So that’s our auto mode. The airflow control is what we did earlier where I was adjusting the fan level up and down. So, this is your manual mode if you will. You could set it manually to whatever fan level or filtering that you would like. Oscillation on an off. This is an interesting one. Uh, I did pour through the documentation and I couldn’t find any information about this, so I don’t know what it does. Let me just turn it on and see what happens. Ah, oscillating. Okay. So, when it oscillates this is what it does. It basically turns. So, it basically operates more like a fan, goes left and right. So that’s what oscillating means.
Oscillating and Sleep Modes
Okay. So maybe that’s why they didn’t need to put that in the instruction because once you turn it on, you’ll see. So this is oscillation Motion. Let me just turn it off. When you turn it off, it’s just kind of my stays where it’s at. So I’m going to put it right back at the center. I’m going to wait and in a few seconds, it comes back to the center. Yeah, good enough. The next thing is the sleep timer. So you could set your purifier to turn off at a certain time. I’m going to set this for 15 minutes. You could set it for 30, 45, or one-hour settings. The max you set it at is nine hours. That’s the maximum amount you could set it. I’m just going to go back because I don’t need it.
I don’t know if you guys can hear it, but the fan’s speed has come down slightly. Now is this is at auto-level with the fan set at the level of three. The auto level self adjusts based on the environment that it’s in. The last setting is the night mode. If this was in your bedroom, and you needed to go to sleep, and you don’t want the fan to bother you, you can turn on night mode. And I think that just operates at a level of one while you’re sleeping. One last thing that’s really cool too is this remote, right? You know, most of the time you have all these remotes lying everywhere. One of the special features is that there’s actually a magnet at a top of this thing right here.
Using and Mounting the Remote Control
You can’t see it, but you can attach the remote like this. And then it just kind of stays. So, you see, when I tried to move it, it goes back. Yeah. So just a magnet there. That’s how you can just leave your remote at the top. It’s not too obtrusive. It kind of looks like it stays with the unit, you know, a little bit. So, there you go. That’s where you put your remote up there. If you tried to do it the other way, what happens is it will stick out slightly. So you see about doing the other way. It just doesn’t look as good because I’m actually, this is not too bad either actually. Yeah. So you could do it one of two ways. I like it like this, but it’s up to you guys and how you guys want to put your mount. So there you go. In my next video, I’ll show you kind of like what’s in the APP a bit. Once I get this connected to the Wifi.
The Dyson App and How it can Link All Your Dyson Products
In this last part of the video, I want to just demonstrate the phone app. In this demonstration, I am using an iPhone, so this is an apple app. If you’re on an Android the UI might look different than what you would see on this video. This APP is called the DysonLink APP and it’s an APP that links up all kinds of like Dyson’s product out there. So, anything from a vacuum cleaner to an air purifier and so on and so forth. This is kind of like your all-in-one, 360 app that you can run all your Dyson products thru. So, it’s pretty nifty if you have multiple Dyson app and things like that.
Dyson App User Interface(UI)
The UI, as you can see, is pretty clear for the most part. In my opinion, it’s pretty much self-explanatory. You have your four buttons on each of the corner, and then at the top left you’ve got some general help and support resources. And on your top right you get additional support information that pertains to your machine, in this case, my air purifier.
UI for Use with Digital Assistance and Voice Activation
Siri and Alexa are your only two options, unfortunately, no Google Home at this point. Sorry about that. Then on your bottom-left, you have basically the same replication of your remote, of that remote that I show in the earlier scene of this review. So, it’s the same replication, the buttons each stay the same where each is. So you can technically work with the phone app rather than the remote control should you choose to. And the UI is the same, so you don’t have to relearn a UI just to learn a new control set. So this is pretty good. I said I always liked Dyson because it is very user-friendly and whatnot. And then on the bottom left you basically could set up your schedule. In this case, I have set up my schedule from midnight to basically 7:00 AM when I want my air purifier in night mode because I don’t want the fan to be blasting in the middle of the night while I’m sleeping and wake me up.
Nightmode, Setting the Clock and the Buttons
Cause the fan could get noisy if there are pollutants and whatnot, in the air in the middle of the night. And I just don’t want it, you know, to wake up. I’m sure I can like forego that while I’m sleeping. As you can see this is on auto and night mode. So between those times, you know, I just wanted it to be night mode. Be aware that they do use military time; they don’t use AM or PM. So, do take that into account. They use military time. One thing with the new UI stuff, which I don’t like, is what’s considered a button, what’s considered tappable right on the phone screen. And there were two things that took me a little bit to realize, but pretty much like, right
ou know, right where it says good on my screen. There’s that little question mark. So that’s actually a tappable button and you could learn more about, like, air quality index and what have you. There’s something about temperature and humidity and things like. But the one that I’m most concerned with is air quality. When I first started up the system, because I haven’t had an air purifier for a while in my place, it was very poor. And now it looks like I’m at good, so that’s good. Right. If we trust the system to work, you know, the way it should then this is good, then I think my air that I’m breathing now should be better. Another thing that I didn’t know was tappable, and which took me a little bit to realize, was this graph; you know, the icon over here.
Air Quality Graph Display
So you tap on it, you get to see the graph. So, as you can see, there’s not much to a display because I just started the unit. But you can see that light when it gets this from up to down, oh, I think, okay, so down is good because you can see the green is at the bottom and the red is at the top, so going down is good in this sense for air quality. And then my temperature rose up a little bit and humidity went down. I don’t, because I just got the unit, so there’s not a lot to see. So you can look at the daily view. A weekly view looks like, I don’t have enough data to display that, but you can kind of see what it looks like with your data that way, which is pretty cool. You know, and then you can, I guess understand more about indoor air quality.
So I guess this would be a good example of what a graph would look like once you have some information on it. Again, just, you know, an explanation about stuff, things of that sort. I find this app very pleasant to use except before those two buttons, which took me a little bit to realize what they were doing. But beyond that, I like the product and you so far I like, I liked the product. If there is interest in the future from viewers about how I liked the product, I’d be happy to do a follow-up video on this as to my experience with this Dyson product progresses. If it’s a bad experience, I would definitely make a follow-up video.
But if you guys are interested in the future, or if there’s any interest, I’m happy to do a follow-up video like in a month or two, just to give you guys my take on the Dyson TP2 Fan / Air Purifier. Do you guys want to hear about it? Other than that, as always, thank you for watching the video and I always enjoy your comments. So, please comment like, and definitely subscribe. That would mean a whole, whole lot to me and my wife.
